Kids in Region 6 pitch in to help with gardening

Georgia Family Connection turned 25 in 2016, so we’re taking you on a journey—region by region—throughout our anniversary year to show you the landscape for children and families across our state. This month we share the 25 things you need to know about Region 6, located at the geographic center of the state.

Region 6 is the place to be in the spring for the state Banana Pudding Festival and International Cherry Blossom Festival. It’s where you’ll find the Peach Capital of Georgia, the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, and Aviation Museum. Unfortunately, it’s also where you’ll find a childhood obesity, poverty, and high-school dropout crisis.

The 11 county Collaboratives in the region are bringing partners together with a common goal to strengthen families and help students succeed. Promoting healthy living, offering Bridges Out of Poverty training and GED recruitment events, making literacy for all ages a priority, working to prevent child abuse and neglect, and revitalizing communities are just some of the ways the Collaboratives are moving toward their goal.
