New Report on Suicide in Georgia Released
Georgia Department of Human Resources recently released Suicide in Georgia: State and County Statistics 2005. The report summarizes the total number of suicides in each county from 1994 - 2002, average number per year, and average age adjusted rate per year (number per 100,000). The report reveals that the highest rates are in rural counties-19 percent compared to 10.3 percent or lower in metro counties. Georgia 43rd in New State Health Rankings
The United Health Foundation recently released its annual America's Health Rankings, a comprehensive analysis of the relative healthiness of the American population. The report assesses each state's health and includes 18 traditional and nontraditional measures, including prevalence of smoking, high school graduation rates, infant mortality rates, per capita public health spending and immunization coverage. The report ranks Georgia 43rd in the nation for 2005, up from 45th in 2004. http://www.unitedhealthfoundation.org/ahr2005.html.

Report Discusses Strategies for Increasing Physical Activity in Communities
A report from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-Lessons Learned: Promoting Physical Activity at the Community Level-examines 25 projects it funded that promote walking, biking and other activities, and offers 12 lessons learned. http://www.rwjf.org/files/publications/LessonsLearned_PhysicalActivity_GRR.pdf.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has a new Web site that pulls together resources on methamphetamine, including publications, research, facts and figures, events, conferences, programs, funding, training, policies, and community involvement regarding methamphetamine. Georgia Car Accident Data Available by County
The Georgia Department of Transportation's Crash Reporting Unit has online data providing information by county on drunken driving, seat belt use, and proper child safety restraint use. Yearly crash analysis, statistics and information are available from 1996 - 2003.
