Family Connection Collaborative News Briefs

Bacon

The Bacon County Postal Service's annual "Help Stamp Out Hunger" food drive recently contributed more than 2,350 pounds of canned and boxed food to the Family Connection Food Bank. The local 4-H group also supported the event.

Clarke

Clarke County held a regional Foster Care and Adoption Fair at Sandy Creek Park in Athens. The city's mayor read a proclamation declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Athens. The proclamation cited Family Connection and other organizations for their work in preventing child abuse. Representatives of the organizations stood outside City Hall surrounded by hundreds of colorful pinwheels. Each pinwheel represented a report of child abuse and neglect or a substantiated case. Staff then moved the pinwheels in front the Clarke County DFCS office, where they will remain as a reminder of how many local children are affected by child abuse and neglect.

Randolph

Randolph County Family Connection recently held its annual banquet with the theme "Building Bridges: Strengthening Children, Families and Community." Bobby Jenkins, Superintendent of Randolph County Schools, and Gaye Morris Smith, Executive Director of Family Connection Partnership, served as keynote speakers. The Randolph County READS Initiative Certified Literate Community Program plans to increase enrollment in its GED program this year by recruiting and retaining more students.
