Region 11 Hosts Parent Engagement Day

Family Connection Family Advisors in Region 11 recently hosted a Parent Engagement Day at the Valdosta State University Continuing Education Center. The event, which was co-sponsored by the university's Department of Psychology and Counseling, featured the theme "More than Just a Parent" and included seven workshops, exhibitors, a motivational speaker, and a dramatic presentation by youth in the community.

The purpose of the event was to engage area parents and develop a regional parent network for the Family Connection collaboratives. Parents from 10 counties in Region 11 attended. A panel of Family Advisors told their personal stories and explained their role in their local collaboratives.

Gracie Jefferson, representing the Brooks County Collaborative for Family Enrichment, and Jerry Calhoun, representing the Lanier Commission for Children, Youth and Families, serve as Region 11 Family Advisors.
