The Georgia Child Care Council invites parents, providers, employers and concerned citizens to express opinions about child care needs in Georgia at a Child Care Public Hearing Oct. 18, from 2 - 4 p.m., at the Hilton Savannah DeSote, 15 E. Family Connection Partnership will host two Learning Institutes on Community Involvement and Collaborative Development, Oct. 21 - 25 and Oct. 31 at six locations statewide. Find out and discuss what the experts say works. The registration deadline is Oct. 10. All sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to 3:30 pm.

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED. The Georgia Dept. of Human Resources will sponsor a Best Practices Conference involving Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information Systems (SACWIS) technology on Oct. 28 - 30, at the Hyatt in Savannah. Attendees will include the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) Social Services staff from across the State of Georgia (county and state office), Dept. of Human Resources Information Technology, and agency partners. Workshops will feature presentations by child welfare administrators and staff from various states regarding the transformation of child welfare case management in their state, information system benefits, computer-based training opportunities, and the impact of these changes on customers, staff, management and agency partners.

The Georgia Center for Nonprofits announces plans for Dot Org, the Southeast's first technology conference for nonprofits and foundations, to be held on Nov. 7 in downtown Atlanta. Dot Org features presentations and demonstrations to help you understand, leverage, fund and measure the power of technology in your organization. Stanley S. Darton College presents a "Day of Extraordinary Training," on Dec. 3. Corporate training and economic development topics for the day include subjects such as motivation, diversity, communication, customer service and leadership. The training will be held on campus at 2400 Gillionville Rd., in Albany. The registration fee is $25 to be paid in advance by credit card or check. The registration deadline is Nov. 22. Family Connection Partnership will host its Winter Training Event Feb. 18 - 19, 2003, in Atlanta. Network with community leaders, state partners, local legislators and other key stakeholders across Georgia. Share your collaborative successes. Show how state funding for the work that Family Connection collaboratives do translates into improved results for your local children and families. Collaborative members, their partners and legislators are invited to attend. More than 400 people attended last year's event, including Gov. Roy Barnes, Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor, Speaker of the House Tom Murphy, Dept. of Human Resources Commissioner Jim Martin, and other legislators, policy makers and community leaders across the state.
