Three dropout prevention initiatives of the Gordon County School System will be featured as part of the 10th Annual Bus Trip Across Georgia tour in October. The system-wide, school-based family advocate program, the Ninth Grade Academy, and the Child Development Center at Gordon Central High School will be highlighted.

Sponsored by the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education, the tour's mission is to promote higher standards for education, highlight best practices in education, and support Georgia communities. An estimated 120 Georgia policy makers and business leaders are expected to participate. Gordon County was selected as one of 13 school systems chosen from a total of 39 school systems that applied to have their "best practices" featured to this group. Gordon was selected for its innovative approaches promoting school completion.

"We are very proud of the things that we do to create a caring and nurturing environment for children" says Vickie Spence, associate superintendent of the Gordon County School System. "The school system is uniquely positioned to collaborate effectively with partners through our local Family Connection to create effective, sustainable programs that address the specific needs of families and children in our community. I think we are successful because we are good at coming up with better ways of doing business."
