Jenkins County Leadership Featured in Local Paper Adult and youth community leaders in Jenkins County were recently showcased in The Millen News. The county graduated its first classes of Leadership Jenkins and Youth Leadership Jenkins. The Leadership Jenkins program was made available through a grant from the Georgia Rural Economic Development Center to the Jenkins County Family Enrichment Commission. Sophia Kent, program director for Jenkins County Community In Schools, coordinated the program, which includes a leadership curriculum provided by the Fanning Institute of Leadership. The mission of Leadership Jenkins is to serve people who desire to develop leadership within themselves and others. Graduates of Youth Leadership Jenkins, the county's first youth leadership class, recently presented a slide presentation on their leadership program at a Millen Rotary Club meeting. The graduates discussed key components of leadership such as taking charge, communication, setting goals and managing conflict. Youth Leadership Jenkins is a collaborative effort between the Jenkins County Family Enrichment Commission and its partners. The purpose of the program is to promote the development of future leaders. Its mission is to identify and train a core group of students who will serve as leaders in their homes, churches, schools and communities and conduct peer training in leadership, stewardship and academics. Also in Jenkins County youth news, Mayor Robert Fields recently signed a proclamation declaring Sept. 11 through Sept. 17 as National Kids Voting Week in Jenkins County. A local program called Kids Voting Jenkins gives children in kindergarten through twelfth-grade the tools to become educated, lifetime voters. Featured
