Campaign Helps Parents, Caregivers Support Early Learning

Children are born learning. Parents and caregivers of young children understand how important the early years are in their child's development. Yet many say they are not sure how to encourage early learning or feel they lack the time to do what it takes to prepare their child for school.

In response, United Way of America has partnered with the Ad Council and Civitas to create Born Learning, a public engagement campaign that helps parents, caregivers and communities create quality early learning opportunities for young children.

The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness of the importance of quality early learning and increase parent knowledge and skills by recommending simple actions parents can take to help their children be ready for school.

Born Learning advocates that everyday activities, such as going to the grocery store or riding the bus, can provide valuable learning opportunities for young children. It provides tips and ideas to help parents and caregivers turn ordinary daily activities into eye-opening experiences for young children. Born Learning materials give advice about issues and concerns such as proper nutrition, health and children's sleep patterns.

The campaign supports collaboration, bringing together local, regional, state, and national early childhood stakeholders for a nationwide grassroots network that includes community impact leaders.
