This publication summarizes important developments, trends and progress in education using the latest available data. The report presents 40 indicators on the status of education in six main areas:
1. Enrollment trends and student characteristics at all levels of the education
      system from elementary education to adult learning
2. Student achievement and the longer term, enduring effects of education
3. Student effort and rates of progress through the educational system among     different population groups
4. Contexts of elementary and secondary education in terms of courses taken,     teacher characteristics, and other factors
5. Contexts of postsecondary education
6. Societal support for learning, including parental and community support for     learning, and public and private financial support of education at all levels.

New Initiative, Lee y serás® (Read and You Will Be), Promotes Early Literacy and Reading Achievement among Latinos

Scholastic, National Council of La Raza (NCLR) and the Verizon Foundation have partnered to launch Lee y serás® (Read and You Will Be). Business and community leaders have collaborated on this approach to Latino literacy and achievement that engages parents and communities in the literacy development of their children.

This new edition offers a selection of current resources on identifying and eliminating racial and ethnic disparities in health. Produced by the Maternal and Child Health Library, Knowledge Path includes information and links to Web sites, electronic and print publications, Webcasts, and databases. It is intended for use by health professionals, policymakers, program administrators, researchers and families who are interested in tracking timely information on the topic.
