DHR
Issues RFQ for Groups Interested in Partnering to Manage Individual
Development Accounts and Financial Literacy Training
We are excited about an important development that occurred
last week related to MAYOI’s Sustainability Plan.
The
Department of Human Resources issued a long-awaited Request for
Quotes (RFQ) for groups interested in partnering to manage Individual
Development Accounts (IDA) and financial literacy training across
Georgia. As part of the effort to sustain successful strategies
piloted under the Metro Atlanta Youth Opportunities Initiative (MAYOI),
DHR will assume administrative and financial responsibility for
the IDA program and will extend them to foster-care youth statewide.
Tyronda
Minter, MAYOI program officer is looking for help in identifying
potential partners who should receive the RFQ. Ideal candidates
will have a statewide reach with community-based tentacles and might
be able to link the IDA program to their existing supports in the
areas of youth services, financial literacy and/or life-skills training.
The deadline for submission of quotes is 1 p.m. on Nov. 13 (although
we hope the deadline will be extended). Either write back to Minter
with suggestions or reach out to your contacts. The
RFQ is a crucial step in the institutionalization of effective
strategies that work for youth transitioning out of foster care.
"We want to do all that we can to aid in this process,"
said Minter. "Don’t hesitate to let me know if you need more
information or if I can help you in any way with this. Many thanks."

Child
and Family Service Review Report Released
The Child and Family Services Review or CFSR is a federal
monitoring program implemented by the passage of the 1997 Adoption
and Safe Families Act and designed to improve child welfare practice
nationally. All state child welfare systems undergo a federal review
under the CFSR. You will recall that Georgia was first reviewed
by the federal government in 2001. Georgia had its second review
the week of May 14, 2007.

November
Is National Adoption Month
By Proclamation of President George Bush, November is the month
in which we "recognize the adoptive and foster families who
have shared their homes and hearts with children in need, and we
encourage more Americans to consider adopting young people of all
ages."
