Proclamation
FAMILY CONNECTION DAY
WHEREAS,
Family Connection is a public/private partnership supported
by the state of Georgia and the private sector to address
the serious challenges facing children and families in Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
Family Connection collaboratives serve as the local decision-making
body in Georgia's 159 counties, bringing together community
partners to develop, implement, and evaluate plans that improve
measures of child and family well-being; and
WHEREAS,
our vision is for Georgia's children to be healthy, ready
to start and succeed in school, have stable, self-sufficient
families, and live in strong communities; and
WHEREAS,
child and family well-being trends are improving, and Georgia
has moved in national rankings from 48 in the nation in 1991
to 41 in the nation in 2007; and
WHEREAS,
on this 14th day of February at the Family Connection Summit,
representatives of education, health and human services, local
and state governments, businesses, civic groups, and families
convene to celebrate 17 years of community successes for children
and families; now
THEREFORE,
I, SONNY PERDUE, governor of the state of Georgia, do hereby
proclaim February 14, 2008, as FAMILY CONNECTION DAY in Georgia
and encourage all citizens to join me in supporting its vision,
goals, and principles to ensure that people, resources, programs,
and funding are combined in ways that will provide comprehensive
solutions to the problems children and families face.
In
witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the
Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 14th day
of February in the year of our Lord two thousand and eight.
