Welcome
to Connected, Family Connection's quarterly electronic magazine,
in its new format. Though Family Connection Partnership (FCP) produces
this e-zine, it is for you and about the amazing work you're accomplishing
on behalf of Georgia's children, families and communities.
In
this issue we take you to central Georgia where several tornadoes
touched down early this month. We'll show you what happened to Family
Connection collaborative members and partners who got caught in
the path of destruction.
Our
Spring edition looks at how working families in Georgia living paycheck
to paycheck are also coming up short in terms of health, and in
a separate story we explore whether or not health care really is
a priority in this state.
Read
how a group of residents in south Fulton County are forming a strong
community, guided by Family Connection principles, and how colleagues
and friends of Etta Reteneller celebrate her life of service to
others.
We
also recap the 2007 Family Connection Summit, where more than 400
collaborative members, partners and legislators convened in February,
and Region 8's Family Engagement Day.
Connected
will continue to provide real-world solutions to the complex challenges
facing Georgia's children, families and communities, because we
never want the human aspect of your work to get lost in the statistics.
This
is a tool for you to share best practices with one another, to call
for help from a county that may be excelling where you are having
your greatest challenges, and to educate and encourage our partners
and policymakers to make informed decisions and take clear actions
that will benefit families and communities in this state.
This
is your publication, so please give us feedback on what is helpful
and what is not, and what may be missing that you would like to
see in this e-zine.
Though
we have made tremendous progress as an organization, what I wrote
to you in our premiere edition of this e-zine five years ago still
stands. We are proud of the successes we've had in Georgia's communities;
yet we still have work to do.
We
hope you enjoy reading and sharing this as much as we enjoyed bringing
it to you.
Sincerely,
Gaye
