Georgia KIDS COUNT Fact Sheet

What is Georgia KIDS COUNT?
Georgia KIDS COUNT is a project of Georgia Family Connection Partnership (GaFCP) that tracks 49 measures of child well-being and reports year-to-year data highlights, trends and disparities. Our vision for Georgia is for all children to be healthy; ready to start and perform better in school; have stable, self-sufficient families; and live in strong communities.

How is it Different from KIDS COUNT?
KIDS COUNT is a national and state-by-state effort funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation to track the status of children in the United States. KIDS COUNT ranks states on 10 key measures and provides data on the economic, health, education, and social conditions of America’s children and families. KIDS COUNT publishes an annual data book and provides data at datacenter.kidscount.org. GaFCP is the designated KIDS COUNT grantee for the state of Georgia and receives support and funding from the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

What Tools Are Available with Georgia KIDS COUNT?
Having data available is the first important step to measuring indicators of well-being in Georgia. Georgia KIDS COUNT tools help partners interpret data so they can make informed decisions. GaFCP offers the following tools for Georgia KIDS COUNT:

  • Georgia KIDS COUNT Data Center is an online, one-stop-shop data resource offering: 
    • Data Tools to help you access, understand, and interpret information
    • Best practices and effective programs to improve outcomes for children
    • Resources for children, families, and communities at the local, state, and national level
    • KIDS COUNT databases for current data and information at the state, region, county, and school-district levels
  • The Georgia KIDS COUNT Data Book paints a picture of the status of children in Georgia. Policymakers, advocates, service providers, civic leaders, and funders use the information in this book to inform their decisions about priorities, services, and resources that impact Georgia’s children, families, and communities. This resource is published biennially.
  • Georgia KIDS COUNT Tour is a series of community forums offered statewide to depict the conditions of children and families in local communities and promote effective programs and practices that improve outcomes for children. This event occurs biennially.
  • The 10% Calculator computes a 10-percent improvement in key KIDS COUNT indicators for your county.
  • Fact Sheets provide data profiles of 45 indicators of child, family, and community well-being for all 159 Georgia counties and the 12 Georgia Family Connection regions.
