April 16, 2009 - The General Assembly completed the 2009 legislative session on April 3 as scheduled with the passage of FY10 state budget. Look for the final session summary to follow after Gov. Sonny Perdue's 40-day veto period, which ends May 13.
March 31, 2009 - Legislators have completed 37 of 40 legislative days. The Senate Appropriations Committee voted out its version of the FY10 budget on Monday. The full Senate is expected to vote on the budget tomorrow. Much unfinished business remains before the session ends. See details in this week’s newsletter.
March 23, 2009 - Legislators have completed 30 of 40 legislative days. The amended FY09 $18.9 billion budget passed the House and Senate and was signed by Gov. Sonny Perdue. Policymakers considered many bills by “Crossover Day.” See details in this week’s newsletter.
March 17, 2009 - Legislators have completed 34 of 40 legislative days. The House passed its version of the FY10 budget, making substantial changes from the governor’s revised budget proposal. Read this week’s newsletter to find out the governor’s concerns with this budget and get updates on pending legislation.
March 10, 2009 - Legislators have completed 27 of 40 legislative days. The Senate version of the Amended FY09 budget passed. Legislation to reinstate the state sales tax on groceries is under consideration to stimulate the economy. Read this week's newsletter for more information and updates on pending legislation
March 3, 2009 -Legislators have completed 24 of 40 legislative days. The House passed its version of the amended FY09 budget. Read this week's newsletter for details on the House budget and legislation.
February 24, 2009 -Work is proceeding on the FY09 budget, and House Appropriations Subcommittees are expected to vote on the budget this week. Read this week's newsletter for updates on pending legislation.
February 17, 2009 - With the passage by Congress of a federal stimulus package, Georgia would gain an estimated $1.73 billion over nine quarters in additional federal Medicaid match, $1.26 billion in an education block grant, and provisions for other programs. This funding should help offset some of the proposed budget cuts. In this week’s newsletter you will find more information on this and other pending legislation.
February 10, 2009 -Economic conditions continue to worsen. With the decline of state revenue figures in January and uncertainty over the federal stimulus legislation, the Georgia General Assembly adjusted its weekly meeting schedules. The session will adjourn on Day 35 and resume late in June for the final five legislative days. Read this week's newsletter for updates on pending legislation.
February 3, 2009 - The House and Senate began budget hearings and debated homeowner tax relief. Two bills introduced this week were a cigarette tax and the restructuring of the Department of Human Resources. See details on these and other pending legislation in this week’s newsletter.
